Who's Who

Lauren O'Connell

Hello everyone at the University Center. You all have been exposed to me indirectly through Veronica's posts for quite some time, but now I am going to be writing my own separate post. My name is Lauren O'Connell and I met Veronica freshman year on our teeny hall. One would assume that we became fast friends, seeing our current relationship, but we did not. For the first month or so, I hated her and vice-versa. How things do change, no?

I live in Northern Virginia (yes, another NOVA chick), but no, I didn't go to high school there, so NO I don't know your friend from TJ! I went to high school in a Michigan college town where I lived from age 9 to 18. From age 0 to 9, I lived in another portion of NOVA, so it wasn't so much of a shock moving there after senior year. It's just kind of odd to be a Northern Virginian, but know no one to give me rides for breaks. Ah, well.

I have an older sister and an older brother (3 and 6 years respectively). Their names are Anne and John. Anne goes to Oberlin College in Ohio, and yes, if things were average, she would have graduated by now, but she took a year and a half off to go to New Zealand, study at a Zen monastary, and work on a vegetable farm. My brother went to Yale, graduated on time, got a cushy AT&T job, lives in San Fran, and buys expensive coffee. I always tease him about being vain and pretentious (which he is), but it's because I can see those traits in myself too.

I am a Chemistry major with a Biochem minor who really wishes that this school offered a Biochem major. Anne is also a Biochem major, but she's more into the practical applications (wiping AIDS off the planet) and pure research has always appealed to me. Junior year Chem is kicking my little tail, but I am taking (besides Phys Chem and Instrumental Analysis) Intro to Arabic for fun. (Yes, I'm insane.)

I am not in a sorority and the only one that I am even vaguely familiar with is Beta, since Veronica is the only sorority friend that I have. My social life currently rotates around Quinn and Veronica's ability to drive me to ODU to see him. Other than that, I spend my time reading sci-fi/fanatasy voraciously, writing email to all of my buddies back at University of Michigan, checking the UC (I'm actually not THAT much of a troll, but sometimes it seems so), and doing all of my homework, lab reports, etc.

I have never had a boyfriend, so the whole Quinn experience is new for me. What he is to me has not yet been determined, so I'll stick with my sister's terminology and call him my boy. I am extremely hopeful for us--we seem to click in the strangest ways. He seems not to mind my rambling interludes about the strangest subjects, and then compliment me on them. He's incredibly sweet, but if I go on much longer about him, you all will die of sugar shock.

So, I hope that everyone will enjoy getting to know me a little better in the coming year.
