The real world isn't separated like that- we need to be able to get along with and coexist with all different kinds of people.
Last night I went with my roommate to the discussion panel about "why black students at Williamand Mary are so stuck up." It was really interesting, although I have to admit that some of the contributions surprised me quite a bit. Some people were all talking about how they would rather go to an all black school like Hampton University or Norfolk State. I think that any kind of school that is separated like that, be it an all-male, all-female, all black, all whatever is dumb simply because it is unrealistic. The real world isn't separated like that- we need to be able to get along with and coexist with all different kinds of people. I think that W&M provides that kind of environment. However, I did go to a very diverse high school and I'm used to being around different kinds of people, so maybe I make that out to be my environment here as well.

Anyway, I just get mad when people try to make everything a racial issue. It's like people need to blame their problems on something, so some ofthemsit around and sob about how oppressed they are. It's like the peoplewho work in the Marketplace with the attitudes as big as anything. Theyact like it's MY fault that they're working there. It's not like therearen't any opportunities for them to work hard and get an education so theycan get the hell out of there. Affirmative action is dumb too- it's likecommunism. The concept looks good on paper, but it doesn't work in reallife. It's unfair to those of us who work hard and should receive creditand recognition for what we have done, and who lose out to someone elsejust because the other person is male, or black, or the son of World War IIveteran. It makes me mad to say the least. Everyone has to be fillingquotas these days...

"Words, words, words..." I'll step down off my soap box now.
