I have officially entered a state of senioritis and impending graduation shock. This means that lately I have spent a lot of time not going to class, goofing around with my friends, and taking a million pictures so I can remember these people when we all go our separate ways. It's sad. And I know that I suck at keeping in touch with people, so memories and pictures may be all I have a year from now. :(
Sorry about that. I don't mean to depress everybody. Now on to my complaint of the week: ART CLASS!
This is how my art class goes: we come into class, and the first thing we do it put up our art and critique each other's work. No holds barred. It is strange...maybe the professor has different expectations of all of us, but it seems like she's incredibly harsh in criticizing the projects that I think are the best, and when someone puts up a painting that I think isn't too good, she'll say something like, "I like the range of golden tones you express" or, "I really get a sense of expansion (or volume, or anger, whatever) from your work." It is really confusing. The worst is when I spend in excess of 6 hours on ONE painting, and she says, "I think you should have spent a little more time on this piece." FRUSTRATION! To think I took this class because I thought art would be "fun". I spend hours on end in Andrews (the art building), finally emerging late at night covered with paint and charcoal.
There is one guy in the class who has a specific hatred for anything I create. Every time something of mine is up for discussion, he shoots it down. He says it looks "flat" or "uninspired". I have been giving him dirty looks on a regular basis now. Even more annoying, his girlfriend is in the class, and he gives all of her art glowing reviews! He is such a pain.
You guys can be the judge. I will try to get some of my art scanned and posted here, and you can see how bad it is for yourself. My disclaimer: I have never taken an art class before in my life, and I never will again. I am no Picasso.
Gotta go...big weekend ahead...2 formals and a trip to see my friend's senior clarinet recital at her college in New Jersey! Whew!
Go forward an
