I've had two job interviews so far. One was with a sub-contractor of the Coast Guard. I would be helping to publish a magazine. I enjoyed that interview, but I've been slack about filling out this application they gave me. Think college-essay type application. They even want a transcript. I'll probably finish that and give it to them on Tuesday. The other interview was with a newsletter publishing company. Unfortunately, I was late to that interview. And since they were supposed to call me back about a second interview this week and they didn't, I guess I didn't make that good of an impression. That job was as a marketing assistant. I would have been maintaining a data base and helping to publish some newsletters - searching for quotes on printing, etc. I have two interviews this week. One is with a "recruitment" advertising agency. This job is very sketchy. I sent them my resume Thursday night, they called me Friday morning. And the ad was in the paper Jan. 5. Something about a receptionist with the potential to move up to "account rep". Sounds like a sales job to me. I am going mainly for the interview experience. The other one is for a desktop publishing position downtown. That could be up my alley. We shall see.
Let's see, what else. I think it was Bonnie who asked what kind of job search I am doing. Well, I started out looking at a lot (and I mean A LOT) of the on-line classifieds. But what I've been doing lately is checking the Washington Post classifieds on-line. It's great. It's also very easy, much easier than looking stuff up in the paper. I've been mailing my resume, faxing it, and even emailing it in a few cases. I've gotten four responses and two rejection letters. I've discovered that there are a lot of jobs out there, it's just a matter of finding the right one and having the right one find me.
What have I been doing in the meantime? Not a whole lot. My parents have given me some money to tide me over until I get a job. Kind of as an incentive not to take the other job. So I'm living rent-free till March. If I don't get something soon, I'll probably start temping. I like doing that. I temped for about a week or so over break. $7 an hour isn't much, but it's better than nothing. So I will be ok, I'm sure.
The other question I was asked - "what do you sleep in?" Well, it may have been tacky, but I thought I would answer it to prove that I would answer any question. Here goes: Usually I sleep in Victoria's Secret flannel boxer pajamas. Usually. There you have it.
If you have any other questions you would like answered, feel free to email them to me or put them on the DA. Like I said, I'll answer anything! Hope y'all have a good week.
