Well, here we are at the first narration. We've been active for 5 days now, as of this writing, and things seem to be going well with the site. I'm still not sure how many people are out there reading, and especially with The Atrium not working right, I guess I won't know for a little while longer.
Let me give you the lowdown on the site itself right now, and how the technical problems have been going. Since going online, we decided on the schedule for posting.
Monday : My narration
Tuesday: Jack
Wednesday: Bill
Thursday: Caitlyn
Friday: Allison
Saturday: Mia
Sunday: Erica
Now that that has been decided, with tomorrow's post by Jack, we will have gone through the rotation once. Once we've done that, I'll create a calendar so you can look through the old entries more easily, as well as links on the bottom of each entry to t ake you back in that person's diary.
You all have probably read about the campus Network situation. Well, it's improved a little. The labs are now operational, and it looks like they will remain stable for now. However, dorm c onnections are not ready yet, and don't look like they will be for a little while. I'm not even connected, and I'm a CS major. It looks like Caitlyn may be online before anyone else, but Jack may get a connection too. As for everyone else, we'll see.
Now, to the site. As you may have seen, our Berkeley server is not responding the way we envisioned, and so the Atrium has not been online the whole time. We're working on it. That format will probably disappear within two weeks in favor of a new messaging system I'm developing. More to come when it's ready, but look for a threaded discussion area soon.
If you like the site, by the way, please pass the URL on to your friends. Submit us to Cool Sites and such, and help get the word out about this site. I don't have the big guns of our friends at Light Speed Media, and so while GrapeJam is on everyone's mind, I'm afraid the University Center may get lost in the shuffle. (By the way, GrapeJam is a great site.. Take a look. I mean, I'm still a SpotFan at heart, but I'm enjoying GrapeJam too.)
You may notice I'm going to throw links into my postings... If you have ones you want me to look at, just send them my way and I'll take a look.
Now, for this week's summary, to make sure you've read your homework (the dates are the date of posting -- the diary was written the day before):
On Wedneday, Aug 28th, classes started, and in his entry, Bill discussed returning to classes, and visits from his family, girlfriend, and the return to his band.
On Thursday, Aug 29th, Caitlyn talks a little about how rush rules are making it difficult on her and some of her friends.
On Friday, Aug 30th, Allison writes about her father's medical condition.
On Saturday, Aug 31st, Mia is not as certain about her return to campus, and asks for reader input.
On Sunday, Sept 1st, Erica talks about the new man she has met, and her problems with how her sorority sisters are reacting to her.
And here we are with my post, bringing you up to date.
Now if only I could academic credit for this, I'd be all set. And I'm working on getting it.. Don't think I'm not trying. I'm thinking CS and Sociology crossover, and I even have a potential advisor in each department. :)
So that's The University Center for this week. What's coming this week? I have no idea.... Logisitically, this is how it works. I only get the posts 24 hours before you do. However, I know that Jack's roommate Paul is having his 21st birthday this week , and it's rumored to be a monumental affair (even I've heard of it). Bill and Jack are taking Paul out, and Caitlyn is staying far away from the drunkenness. Highlights of things to come....
