I have a couple of items to go over tonight, so I'm going to get through them and get to bed... :) It's been a long night.
First off, I want to welcome all the new readers we're picking up. It's great to have you all on board, and I hope you'll help spread the word about our site here.
Next, I wanted to publically answer a comment I recieved in E-Mail, and deal with it so you could all hear my response. A reader asked me in the past few days if the plots here dealt with anything other than partying and boozing.
My answer is an immediate yes. If you look in the past week, we've see Caitlyn deal with her Clue Week, Mia's interest in a member of the opposite sex solidify, Madeline confront her feelings regarding her significant other and The Other Boy, Jack talk about his fears of graduation, and Bill talk about his friendships that he'll pick up again because of this Homecoming Weekend.
I think that's a whole lot more than partying. But Erica did a little of that too for us. :) But my public response to this is another issue. If you all want to hear about something else, there is a simple solution that the participants welcome -- just ask them to talk about something that you want to hear. Classes, stresses, family life, anything you want more info about, just hit the Discussion Area or click that E-Mail button and tell them to write about it and you want to hear about it in a post if they don't mind, or E-Mail if they want it private. I know they'd be thrilled to hear from you.
So take control a little -- this is an Interactive site, and you don't have to be a passive participant. They volunteered -- they want to tell you about this stuff! :)
Ok, now that I said all that, my next issue of the night. You'll notice that the posts now contain a banner from the Internet Link Exchange. Yup, I'm sorry to say we're going the advertising route.
Now, before everyone gets all up in arms, I want to mention a few things here so you all have the full scoop. First off, you'll notice that the banners are located at the bottom of posts. I want to make this kind of stuff unobtrusive, and so hopefully you're barely notice. I do ask that you let the banners load -- the site gets advertising credit for every banner we display, and our banner is displayed on other sites so we get more exposure.
The next point is that I'm not currently making any money off the site, and not making any money by the advertisements. It's simply something to get the word out there.
Now, as for the future.
There will be an official announcement of this later, but Eric Bartholow (the Assistant Webmaster on this site) and I are working on setting up a server for the University Center, and for a production/Web publishing organization that will house the UC and other college student original works. And yes, we will probably do advertising to help pay the bills. We want to be a creative outlet for college students to get published.
We're building a team of people to help us get started, and we have a project in the early development stages. In addition, the University Center will continue in the fall with a second season of diaries. So you'll be able to continue to get your real-life fix ... :)
So the exposure (and thus the ads) are our first thrust to get the name out even more. And we would definately appreciate all the assistance you all want to give us. We hope you like our project, and want to see more original material produced like this.
Anywayz, more on this topic when I have it, but I thought you all would like to hear the good news that there will be more of the University Center to come after this year. I know we were psyched when we decided we could do it.
I'm off to bed.. It was a long Homecoming weekend, and I caught up with a lot of people I really wanted to see. But, I'm now exhausted...
Good night....
