I'm thinking about Jack's comments, as I just received them in E-Mail as his last post.
I'm sorry to see him go.
But times change. And I realize that I have not mentioned why we've put the UC under the banner of Evolve Technologies.
This sucker is a lot of work. An AWFUL lot of work. And I needed some help to get everything rolling. Eric and I had been working on this Evolve Technologies idea, and it seemed like the perfect extension.
In addition, we've run into problems in our use of the college computing facilties for the site. The board in particular was a point of contention, as we can't run CGI scripts on the college machine, and that bound us pretty badly in terms of what we could and could not do. I have some improvements in mind to get this thing moving forward more, and to do so, it will require a space like this one rather than the college machine.
Since we want to keep doing this, and I graduate this May, we had to work out the problem of where will this site go. We could have done it at the end of the year, but with the growth and the need for access to complete control on the site, it made sense to get server space.
And that costs money. Money that has to come from somewhere.
Evolve is our mechanism to provide that support. I completely respect Jack's decision to leave, but times change, and change is not always easy. We move forward, and I'm sorry he won't be coming with us.
