So I was asked by Drake what I look for in participants. So I consulted with Thomas Jefferson, and came up with this response....
To be honest, there was very little actual process that went into the initial choices. Caitlyn, Jack, Bill and Mia were on my first round of choices, and Erica and Allison were second round. I asked them because I thought they would be interested in doing it, and would enjoy the experience.
So far, I've been proven mostly correct.
Madeline was a different story. I was hanging around with Bill and Jack, and she came by to visit. They were talking about the site with me, and she asked what we were talking about. I explained, and Bill turned to me and went...
"You know, Madeline would be pretty cool for the site"
At the time, I was thinking of bringing someone else on, and so it just worked out really well. She was interested, and looked over the site, and then we brought her on.
Now, I've been giving a lot of thought to how I'm going to do this for next year. Caitlyn has a lot of concerns about the selection process.... Her reasoning being that everyone on the site already knew one another, and that new people wouldn't have that same familiarity with one another, and that something would be lost with people that don't know each other.
So for next year's cast, I'm actually really hoping to stumble upon a group of friends that would be interested in doing this, and all apply together. I don't know if it will happen, but I'd love to see it.
If not, I'm hoping for a group of people that aren't separated that much.. You know, like 2 degrees of separation or something like that.
If there was any one qualifier, it is someone that I think can open up and start to share themselves with the rest of the world. Someone who actually wants some feedback from strangers, and gets a kick out of advice from someone they don't even know.
I know I do.
For example, I got a message the other day from a nice girl named Dianna, and she complemented the site and said that she had stumbled upon it in searching the W&M pages for good ideas for her own Web site. This simply made my day. Getting new readers is really what I aim for with this.... More people to all share these experiences with, and to help us all make this a really great site.
So don't forget to invite your friends. I have a cool humor E-Mail if you all want it about the site, so you can send it around. :) But help us grow and make the UC a better place.
