Wow, I have so little to write about.

No one came into town this weekend, I didn't go anywhere cool this weekend, and nobody really pissed anybody off that I know of this weekend. I asked everybody in the other room (Jack, Madeline, and Paul) what I should write about considering the lack of conflict and activity this weekend. Madeline said that I should write about how cool she is. I don't think she actually thought I'd do it. So here it goes....

Madeline is extremely cool. She doesn't get offended by dirty jokes or comments that are in poor taste. She likes SoCo, which is always a point in anyones favor as far as I'm concerned. Most important of course is the fact that she is the kind of person who would actually suggest this as a legitimate topic for a post. Okay...I never said she was all that bright (just kidding)

I have a little bit of tequila in me right now, so you'll have to bear with me. I supplemented it with some Southern Comfort almost immediately afterward. I just finished a paper for one of my government classes that is worth 40% of my grade. Tonight is the celebration at finishing (among other things).

I finally got myself a radio show for the semester. It's in a time slot that my friend Justin Rourke had for about 3 years and our Alpha alumni Martin took over last year. Justin is happy that we've held onto the time slot. He'll be in town this weekend and will help me out with the show ( my first in quite a while). I don't know what it's like to do a radio show at WCWM with all of the equipment working. It's next to impossible to do a jazz show at this school without at least one of the turntables functioning properly because of the significant superiority of the vinyl jazz section down in the station lobby.

Speaking of Justin...I'm looking forward to this Friday evening. Even though the highlight will be the homecoming gathering for Alpha fraternity and I get to spend some of the weekend with Dana, the unexpected bonus is getting to hang out in the early evening with 3 guys who constituted a large chunk of my social life my sophmore year. Justin, Randy Schultz, and Dennis Ross all graduated two years ago and I haven't had a chance to hang out will all three of them together since then. Justin introduced me to Randy, who introduced me to Dennis. Randy is back here in grad school now, but the opportunity to get together with all three of them is ideal. Justin and Randy provide a great balance for each other as Justin, while fairly hyper, is the perfect foil for Randy, who is an extreme "Type A personality". Both of them have become more balanced since they graduated; Justin is in a serious job and Randy has finally seen the need to chill out and relax. Dennis and I fall somewhere in the middle (although both of us are pretty hardcore slackers) and provide the commentary. His senior year, Dennis liked to bait Randy regularly. It caused some problems but nothing long term.

My recommendations for this week. Hmmm.... I picked up Sly and the Family Stone's greatest hits the other day. Not exactly new, but some good shit nevertheless. The only new stuff I have picked up lately is by a band called T.J. Kirk. It has 3 guitarists (regular, slide, and 8-string) and a drummer. They play the work of Thelonius Monk, James Brown, and Roland Kirk (hence the name). The 8-string guitarist is Charlie Hunter, with 3 albums out under his own name. This stuff is similar in style. Definitely jazz (organ trio style), but with serious funk influence. I also heard a track off of the new Medeski, Martin and Wood CD. I'm gonna need to pick it up next week.

Sorry for rambling. Skip the dumb shit.

Bill
