That's right everybody. I thought I was going to pull the greatest slacker move of all time time and have found that all three of my "real" classes have attendence requirements and regular homework. And I worked through all of my graduation requirements for THIS?
But seriously. I seem to have pulled a really sweet semester in spite of
this. Its not like any of them really requires a lot of work, just more
discipline than I'm used to. I'm even ahead in the reading in one of the
classes. To those who know me well, this signals one of two things: 1)
judgement day, 2) I've been kidnapped and/or killed and replaced with an
imperfect if somewhat more motivated clone, or 3) all of the above. I
sent Dana e-mail about actually being ahead in the reading and I'll lay
you 100 to 1 odds that she went catatonic when she read it.
I also went to the first full class of my lone, remaining graduation requirement: bowling. Yes, I need a credit of phys ed and I figured that I'd be best off if I took one during which I could smoke.
Anybody have any feedback on the Grapejam IRC stuff this past week. It was an entirely new experience for me. With V-Chip and a couple of my friends from here who read the site, I felt a little more at home, but so many people show up that I'm amazed that anybody can follow any of the conversations. Mia said that the one with Dean Cain was even worse as far as comprehensibility (is that a real word?). Anyway, if anybody has any pointers for getting used to that manic a chat environment, lemme know.
I picked up some new discs this week. First was a album by the Ginger
Baker trio (Baker is the drummer from Cream, for those of you who don't
recognize the name). Good stuff, with Charlie Haden on bass and Bill
Frisell (who I recently got into) on guitar. I also bought another album
by Frisell and his group. It is music written as a sort of soundtrack to
Buster Keaton's silent film "Go West". Neat concept, althought it's
tough to find specific tracks that stand out from the work as a whole.
That makes it tougher to find specific tracks that I want to play on my
radio show (which, for the first time ever for me, is during prime time
on a week night...WHOOOOOH!!!).
The last disc I bought was "The
Rise and
Fall of the Third Stream", by Joe Zawinul. It's some of his '60s stuff
prior to getting into heavy synthesizer work. It was kind of
dissappointing though. Less because it wasn't good and more because it
wasn't what I expected, nor was it what I was in the mood for.
With a little luck, by own computer will be online within the week. DJDave is getting me a network card and cable pretty soon. Once I have web access at my desk, what do you wanna bet that I accomplish absolutely nothing from that point on.
I'm headed to see Fighting Gravity in Richmond this weekend with Randy Schultz, Justin Rourke, and Dennis Ross this Friday. It'll be great to get back together with that group again. Then Randy is throwing a Super Bowl party on Sunday. I will refrain from making any trite or obnoxious statements in favor of either team, despite my personal preference. I will instead end with this...
...Thank God it ain't gonna be the Fuckin' Cowboys this year!
I'm gonna go get dinner now. I'll either gloat over Green Bay winning the game next week or look awfully damn foolish.
