I finished up my last exam and last paper a week ago. The next day, I hopped on a train out of the 'burg up here to scenic Northern Virginia, from whence I now post. I came up in time to make it to Dana's office Christmas party. I realized when I got here that I forgot to bring a dress shirt. That's right...I lugged a fuckin' suit, pair of dress shoes and three ties on the train, only to find out that I had forgotten the shirt. We had to run to a mall, buy me a shirt, let me get changed in the dressing room, and run back to the party/dinner just in time for the second course (the first course was black bean soup and neither one of us was going to eat it anyway). We sat at the same table as the boss and his wife, but despite the social pressure, it ended up being a blast. It was kind of a scary view of my soon-to-be future.
I've spent the days sitting around the apartment, watching Sigrid's videotapes and catching up on corny standup comics on Comedy Central. In the afternoons, I headed over to one of the malls up here to get some Christmas shopping done. The other night, I talked to Sean to find out that I had to make contact with Mia. As may have been posted already, a friend of hers from high school passed away and she had to go home early. She was supposed to be my ride from Williamsburg north on Friday. Instead, I'm going to try and trade in the train ticket back to school and then stay an extra day up here. Then Dana will drive me up to Delaware, where my parents will pick me up Friday night. Saturday morning, I get to get back in the damn car to drive out to the midwest to celebrate the holidays. I love the family, but I've never been a big fan of doing Christmas away from home, let alone in Indiana. (my apologies to any readers who may be from there. My family is from there and I like Indianapolis. I just like my home better.) We get back on the 28th and I turn back around to drive back to Northern Virginia to spend New Years w/Dana (and see Dave Matthews on the 29th). Whoo-hoo!!!
Dana and Sigrid and I all went to Bennigan's last night and it was another Buffalo event for me. I had perhaps the best Bennigan's buffalo chicken sandwich I've had in a long time. mmmmmmm....buffalo.
The biggest regret about this trip to Indiana is that I won't have a chance to see "Beavis and Butthead Do America" until much later. I don't want to see it with my cousin and I don't want to see it after him. He can get irritating about that kind of thing.
Allright, I'm getting mocked for rambling, so I'm going to quit now, rather than dig for more random shit to post about. I do have two new CDs to mention, though. I picked up Herbie Mann's "Memphis Underground" and Jean Luc Ponty's "King Kong" (work composed by Frank Zappa). The Ponty stuff was a little bit less disappointing. The Herbie Mann stuff was good, but a little bit too light for my current mood. I wanted something a little rawer...oh well. I'm going to hope that I can grow into it slowly.
