I just looked at my watch and went "oh shit, I forgot to write my post." So much for not having anything to do but watch TV.
I'm sitting next to Paul's TV writing this as HBO shows a preview for the movie "Weapons of Mass Distraction" starring Gabriel Byrne and Ben Kingsley as feuding media moguls. What can I say...two of my favorite actors in what looks to be a hilarious film. This is the true purpose of getting on campus cable. Forget all the crap about it being educational. Around here, all we watch is E!, which is made up of three types of programming. Howard Stern, Talk Soup, and truly meaningless shit. I didn't think it was possible for me to find more avenues of procrastination.
The one thing I like better than having pledges is having new brothers. Our Alpha initiation the other night went far from smoothly, but we still managed to pull through it intact. Just about everything that could have gone wrong did, but we finished up fairly close to one time. Mads spent the first half of the evening trying to tackle the brothers and other pledges. By the end of it, she was hugging everybody (I think it was cause she was having trouble standing). In terms of problems, we had too many extra people around, some interpersonal conflicts, and some less than ideal reactions as a result of stressful weeks. But we got through it and with one or two exceptions, everything got resolved by the time things finished up.
Lots of other stuff happened this weekend, but most of it is someone elses story to tell, so I'll leave it to them. I'm sure Mads already covered some of it. I'll hold off on passing on info about things in which I was not directly involved...now you know the reason why Paul accuses me of giving people "gossip blue balls."
I picked up a rerelease of the Bela Fleck album "Double Time" yesterday. It was recorded in the early eighties and originally released in '84. It features acoustic duets with 11 other musicians, including mandolin players Dave Grisman and Sam Bush, and fiddle players Mark O'Connor and Ricky Scaggs. I'm trying to be real picky about how I increase my bluegrass collection. If anyone knows anything about a live New Grass Revival disc from the period in which Fleck was a member, drop me a line about it...preferably on the DA. I suck about checking e-mail. Thanks.
I have two interviews up in the D.C. area next week. First, I have to get through my one big paper and the toughest of my finals. Then it's off to spend 3-5 days with Dana while using the interviews as an excuse...but seriously, I'm really scared about graduating without a job already lined up. So I'm crossing my fingers and praying that I don't get closed out altogether.
I know that my friends around here are sick of hearing me talk about it, but I have to recommend a comic introduced to me by Mark at the Comic Cubicle (shameless plug for a man who has a great grasp of how to build customer loyalty). The comic is "The Adventures of Aaron." It is the work of a comic strip artist named Aaron Warner who has been doing a strip about his own life (exagerated to a ridiculous extent) for years. There is a compilation of the strips, a CD rom and a new comic book series all out. It's hysterical. The first issue of the new comic has a fight between Aaron and the gym socks that he hasn't washed since high school. I can't do the book justice here, so I'll quit now.
blabbin' away like usual,
Bill
