First I'd like to apologize to Senor Tuthill for not responding to his e-mail sooner. I don't read my site mail account but once in a blue moon (as I berate myself with "that's the way to encourage people to write you, dumbass"). I love it when I get the mail, but it takes a separate disc to check that particular account and I always forget to take it with me. To answer your question, I was in Richmond interviewing with Wallace, a company specializing in information management products and services. They sell pretty much everything you need to run a business but the furniture and the TP for the executive bathroom...and I'm not sure that they can't provide either of those. Speaking of interviewing, I just was offered interviews with the last 2 companies I dropped resume's with. They both want to talk to me. To quote Sally Field "You like me. You really like me."
The kids who want to start a chapter of Alpha at another school were supposed to come down for their initiation this past weekend cancelled the day they were supposed to arrive. The one in charge was apparently crushed. The other sare on my shit list right now. Two of us drove up to see them after 2 weeks of e-mail and phone conversations. The two kids who backed out on us had weeks to plan ahead and inconvenienced over 20 people. They just lost their one special shot at it. Now if they're interested, they have to make it down for one of our chapter's initiation ceremonies. Their excuses were poor and their timing was for shit. The ringleader up there is extremely cool and her handling of the whole thing is probably the only reason the kids haven't been written off altogether.
Because we didn't have to handle them, I talked Dana into coming to visit Friday night. She left Saturday morning and I proceeded to waste one of the least productive days I've had this school year. Sans Alpha activities, I had nothing to do Saturday night, so I went with Paul to help with the Delta formal. I had fun running messages around for Paul and the organizer of the formal. Because I was there as the dj's assistant, I didn't have to dress up. Because I was also their ostensibly as Caitlyn's invite, I also got to hit the food buffet and the bar. I spent much of the evening not so much dancing as holding up drunk people to music. I helped Paul load the car and then returned to my room. I talked with Dana and proceeded to hop in my car and drive up to see her. It was the middle of the night, tiring, and not terribly bright. It was also worth every bit of it. The extra time together was just what I think we both needed, especially with my upcoming graduation and the life changes that are coming with it. All in all, a far better weekend than I had any right to.
The picture at the top of the page is of the WWII era superhero, "The Sandman." He has a title now called "Sandman Mystery Theater" that is far removed from the old 1930s and 40s stories. Kind of a twisted film noir/detective/horror/superhero thing. You can do that when the only thing out of the ordinary about the hero is the sleeping gas he uses that even he needs a gas mask around.

This is a shot of Gil Scott-Heron from his interview a few years back in Vibe magazine. I just picked up one of his earlier albums (1972) called "Free Will." It has some amazing stuff on it. The first half is full band while the second half is Heron's poetry over flute and percussion (the kind of material which earned him distinction as "the godfather of rap"). The first song on the album is the title track and it may be one of my favorite of his tunes on any album. Most of the rest of the "song" work is a little slow for my taste, although marvelous nevertheless. He has sidemen like Hubert Laws on flute and Gerry Jemmott (wow) on bass. The second half contains messages which are, at times, brutal. If this may be your kind of thing, go check this stuff, along with his prior album, "Pieces of a Man."
Over the weekend I bought the album "Panamonk" by pianist Danilo Perez. Its a latin flavor to a lot of Thelonious Monk tunes. Lots of energy and some great playing and arrangements. I'd been hearing about it since last summer and figured I'd take a listen. Good stuff, although not as much my thing as I'd hoped.
Alright...enough of this rambling. I'm missing "Superfriends."
Bill
P.S. almost forgot...Wade Minter's piece on the UC in last weeks Flat Hat. Good stuff except for the stuff that I said. Taken out of context, the stuff I said that he quoted made me sound like an even bigger asshole than usual. Oh well...my own damn fault I suppose.
Go forward an
